Tigers Storm Back to Even the Series — Game 5 Showdown Awaits in Seattle

Comerica Park came alive Wednesday night as the Detroit Tigers erased an early 3-0 deficit to defeat the Seattle Mariners 9-3 in Game 4 of the American League Division Series. The win keeps Detroit’s season alive and sets up a decisive Game 5 on Friday in Seattle, with everything on the line.

Early on, things looked rough for Detroit. Seattle jumped ahead quickly, silencing the home crowd and putting the Tigers in a familiar, uncomfortable spot. But by the middle innings, the momentum shifted — and once it did, the Tigers never looked back.

Riley Greene started the rally with a solo home run that felt like a spark in the dark. Javier Báez followed with the kind of performance that reminds everyone why he’s built for October. A home run, four runs driven in, and a whole lot of emotion pouring out as he rounded the bases. Gleyber Torres joined the party with another big swing, and suddenly the game — and the series — had flipped completely.

The Tigers’ bats didn’t just come alive; they took over. From the fifth inning on, it was all Detroit. Line drives to the gaps, quality at-bats, and the type of confident swings that send a message. By the time the Mariners’ bullpen tried to stop the bleeding, the damage was already done.

Detroit’s pitching held firm the rest of the way, silencing Seattle’s offense and closing the door on what started as a promising night for the Mariners. What looked like a comfortable 3-0 Seattle lead turned into a nine-run Detroit statement.

Now the series shifts back to Seattle for Game 5 — winner moves on, loser goes home. The Tigers will hand the ball to Tarik Skubal, their ace and arguably one of the best left-handers in baseball this year. Across from him, Seattle will counter with Luis Castillo, their own frontline arm and the kind of competitor who thrives under pressure.

It’s everything playoff baseball is supposed to be — tension, momentum swings, and the sense that one swing could decide a season. Detroit enters with confidence and fire. Seattle has the home crowd and something to prove.

Friday night in Seattle will be loud, emotional, and unforgettable. Two teams, one game, and a ticket to the American League Championship Series waiting at the finish line.
