If you walked outside this weekend expecting “December vibes” and instead got punched in the face by summer, congrats — you’re alive and living in the Southwest.
Because Saturday straight-up broke records. The city hit 82 degrees on December 14. That’s not a typo. Eighty. Two. In December. Shattering the old record of 78 from 2010 like it was nothing. Casual four-degree flex. Meanwhile, the normal high for this time of year is 66, which we apparently laughed at and threw in the trash.

What happened? Simple. Big, stubborn high-pressure ridge. Clear skies. Warm air just hanging out, refusing to leave. Basically the atmosphere said, “Nah, we’re good,” and locked the heat in all day. Peak warmth around 3:30 p.m., right when you realized you probably shouldn’t have worn jeans.
And Tucson? Oh, Tucson showed up too. 83 degrees. Nearly matched the record like it was trying to one-up everyone at the party. Very on brand.

The best (or worst, depending on how much you enjoy pretending it’s fall) part? This thing might not even be done yet. Forecasters are eyeing another possible record Monday, with temps flirting around 80 again. In mid-December. Just absolute chaos.
Of course, before everyone starts firing off “climate takes” in the group chat — yes, a cool-down is coming. Midweek reality check. Jackets will be dusted off again. Calm down. But for now? This is one of those “remember when it was basically summer in December” moments.
